I have been thinking a lot lately about what kind of holiday traditions we might want to start for our family. Even though G is still a bit too young to understand holidays, having a child makes me want to celebrate anyways (even the silly ones that I have barely acknowledged in years). Since Valentine’s Day is right around the corner I thought that might be a good place to start.

I found this great pattern for DIY loot bags on Pinterest when I was planning G’s first birthday party. I used this pattern to make customized loot bags for all his friends and they were a huge hit. I thought they were adorable and practical since they could be reused afterwards.

Here is a not so great photo of a loot bag I made for one of G’s friends:

I followed the pattern exactly but instead of muslin I used canvas because it seemed more durable and with little ones the more durable the better. I had leftover fabric from that project and thought it might be cute to make a Valentine’s theme bag to fill with G’s Valentine treats every year. Here is the result:

G is still too young for chocolate and candy and is currently obsessed with books so I thought a Valentine’s Day themed board book would be a nice treat (the size of the bag is perfect for bigger stuff like this).  I can’t wait for him to ‘open’ it on Valentine’s day!

These bags could be customized for any holiday or could be used to wrap a special valentine’s gift for a loved one.

Does your family have any Valentine’s Day traditions?
